Verizon refuses to turn over data

Verizon refuses to turn over data

In a move likely to ruffle the feathers of some pirate seeking lawyers, Verizon has refused to comply with an attorney attempting to obtain information on customers. Verizon objected, stating it was "neither relevant nor reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of relevant information and imposes an undue burden on Verizon." While it's nice to see a company respecting an individual's right to privacy, I'm sure this will only last for a short amount of time, enough to build Verizon some decent press. Source: The Verge

Sports now at i85sports.com

Sports now at i85sports.com

In an effort to make this specific site more central to a subject, such as technology, personal reflections, and some guest posts occasionally, I've moved sports posts to i85sports.com, where any future sports post will be going. That site will serve as a sports site with a very local flare, as I hope to be able to find people to write about sports in areas close to their homes, areas that they care about. This will allow me to focus that site on sports only, and allow me to focus this site on other items I'd like to focus on. This...

Microsoft selling Xbox with 2-year contract

Microsoft selling Xbox with 2-year contract

Let me just go ahead and say this: Nooooooooooooooo. There, it felt good to get that out there. I've written about this a few times - first about the fact that the idea was even floating around, then about how I felt about it. Now, it's been confirmed. Microsoft will be selling the 4GB version of their Xbox, with Kinect, for $99 on a two-year contract. The contract gives you access to Xbox Live Gold at about $15 per month. If you cancel, you pay an early termination fee. It's everything Americans hate about the cell carriers... bundled into a gaming...

Headphones: My latest purchase

Headphones: My latest purchase

I'm always looking for the latest and greatest technology in anything. No matter the brand, I just want something that's good, at a good price. I've long wanted a good pair of headphones, and I've long read reviews and research on them from the audiophiles on the Internet. I'm not sure there's a harder group to please than the head-fi audiophiles of the planet. These guys are devoted to the precise sound that speakers make. I even saw some posting pictures of their mobile setups on forums. This guy taped a mini-amplifier to his iPod Classic to take out on...

Console contracts, no thanks

Console contracts, no thanks

Who here is thinking to themselves that they love cell phone contracts? Who wants to sign more contracts? Contracts for cable price guarantees, contracts for tablets, computers, phones, everything you can think of. Contracts for using applications, devices, for using facilities. We're a society of contracts. A society of contracts that we have no idea what they mean, what we've signed, and why we just locked ourselves into a two year agreement for something that will be out of date in less than six months.   Now The Verge reports that their sources say Microsoft is cooking up contracts for their...

Samsung thinks we’re all giants

Samsung thinks we're all giants

I love my Samsung phones. I've long been a proponent of them. If you're going to buy an Android, I do not think anything comes close to Samsung. That may be because they blatantly copied Apple in a lot of their UI design for TouchWiz, or the phone itself. The biggest tech news today is certainly the unveil of the new Samsung Galaxy SIII. It's bigger and better than the Galaxy SII I'm rocking in every way, well, if you consider a 4.8" screen better than a 4.52" screen. The original Galaxy I owned packed in a 4" screen, and even then...

iPhone with a 4 inch screen

iPhone with a 4 inch screen

There was a post on The Verge forums that described how the new iPhone could be done with a 4-inch screen. For what it's worth, I think the new iPhone will be called simply that, the iPhone. I do think they will increase the screen size. I almost feel like they have to. The post on the forum goes into some pretty articular details about how these changes can be made without needing to re-code any of the existing applications, most notably, the games. It's a pretty cool read. Below, I've posted the image of the homescreen that the author posted. To...

My favorite iPad apps

My favorite iPad apps

I had the original iPad, which I enjoyed greatly. I eventually sold it and picked up an Android tablet in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. While the Galaxy Tab was a nice piece of hardware, sleek, and quick, it suffered from a lack of tablet optimized apps, and from a sluggish operating system. I've still got the Galaxy Tab, but I pre-ordered the new iPad, and received it the day it became available in stores. There's no comparison. Here's a list of some of my favorite apps so far on the iPad (in no particular order): Paper by Fifty-Three - Free - if...

$99 Xbox 360 with two-year subscription

$99 Xbox 360 with two-year subscription

Sources for The Verge are reporting that Microsoft is very close to launching a $99 Xbox that includes a monthly subscription as early as next week. This, of course, subsidizes the cost of the console but locks users into a contract with Microsoft, that will have a penalty in broken. An interesting concept, and one that could get consoles into the hands of many, but also will leave many weary due to the contract.  A growing contingent of people are already  dissatisfied with the two-year cellular contracts they're in, so this could be an interesting path for gaming consoles to go...

Apple rumored to offer wireless service soon

Apple rumored to offer wireless service soon

Apple has long been rumored to be considering offering wireless service. Today, Fox News reported another rumor about Apple's foray into the wireless game. According to a veteran wireless industry strategist, Apple will soon go toe-to-toe with the likes of Verizon and AT&T. He goes on to say that Apple has the wheels of motion set with the ecosystem and distribution chains. Things that Google currently lacks, meaning they may be slow to react to any punch that Apple pulls here. It's an interesting concept, and one that could possibly come true. Of course Apple rumors are nothing new, so don't hold...
